Doctor and craftsman – or, more specifically, plastic surgeon and craftsman. Do those two go together? Yes, they do. Like Bern and the Aare. Like Bern and the mountains. Like Bern and the Bundeshaus.
I am a board-certified specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (FMH). Most people call me a cosmetic or beauty surgeon. But I also like to call myself a craftsman – if only to catch a puzzled look from the person I’m speaking to. I’m a highly trained and experienced craftsman.
What I do is craftsmanship for the breast, face, and body. This includes breast augmentations, eyelid lifts, and reconstructive surgery, such as procedures for skin tumours. Over decades, I’ve mastered, refined, and advanced my craft in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
Without my extensive medical training and experience, I couldn’t perform this highly specialised work for the benefit of my patients. But without my hands, it would be just as impossible. As a plastic surgeon, I need to have a steady, precise hand. My incisions with the scalpel must be millimetre-perfect and clean. When suturing, my movements with thread and needle must be second nature. After thousands of hours in the operating room, my hands know almost instinctively what to do.
I love my medical craft. I love my profession, which I’ve been privileged to practise since 2013 in my own private clinic in the heart of Bern. The Aare, the mountains, the Bundeshaus: I can see all three from my practice, and for that, I consider myself truly fortunate.
