Would you like a lighter, freer feeling and more clothing options? A straight posture and a pain-free back?

Some women experience excessive breast growth during puberty. Depending on the extent, these so-called macromastia or gigantomastia can cause discomfort beyond appearance, including neck, shoulder, and back pain, as well as headaches.

While physiotherapy, muscle strengthening, and posture correction can help, persistent discomfort may require breast reduction surgery.

Completed physical and breast development along with a consistent weight for at least six months, are prerequisites for a breast reduction. Ideally, family planning should also be finished.

The surgery, performed under general anaesthesia, reduces breast volume, typically from the lower sections. The nipple and areola are repositioned higher, leaving scars around the areola and vertically to the breast fold. For larger reductions, a scar in the breastfold may also result.

After the surgery, a supportive bra must be worn day and night for six weeks, and then during the day only for an additional six weeks.
