After completing his medical studies in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Prof. Andrej Banič specialised in general and plastic surgery. From 1984, he held a senior position at the University Hospital in Kuwait. In 1989, he was appointed to the Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland, in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The following year, he earned his PhD in Linköping, Sweden.

In 1993, the University of Bern granted him a teaching post and the Venia Docendi (habilitation), and four years later, he obtained his professorship. From 2000 to 2013, Andrej Banič served as the director and chief physician of the University Clinic for Plastic and Hand Surgery at the Inselspital in Bern.

Following his retirement, he and his son, Dr. med. Borut Banič, opened their private practice for plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery in 2013. He also served as an attending physician at the Salem Spital Hirslanden in Bern.

Andrej Banič brought decades of experience in managing complex cases. He was especially dedicated to reconstructive surgery (tumours and trauma), microsurgery, hand surgery, surgery of the head and neck, and burn surgery.
